Bob's son, Frank, in his 1978 MG Midget convertible.
Herren's former coworker, Bob Johnston, is offering his 1978 MG Midget for sale. Herren received the following note from Bob:
We purchased the car for our son, Frank, in Texas in 1983. We then moved to Tennesee in 1985. We had a new top installed and other repairs along the way (clutch, etc.) Frank drove the car for a year or so and we then moved it into our basement where it has resided ever since. We have neither driven nor cranked it since. Mileage is 34,507 miles.
Cosmetically and mechanically, the car is sound -- at least it was when we placed it in our basement. There has been some interior mold growth which will have to be cleaned up. I also expect it will take some refurbishing, (belts, tires, etc) to make it road worthy after all these years.
I think it would be a good car for someone who knows how to deal with this sort of thing. My wife, Rosie, has resisted the thought of selling -- for sentimental reasons -- but I think she is now ready to see it placed back in service by someone who can get it back on the road where it belongs. Owner's manual and repair records are available.
We're not sure what the car is worth in its current condition. Possibly some of your friends in the club would be interested. We would be happy to consider any offers "as is."
